another laundry soap

I finally got around to trying the Nature Clean All Natural Laundry Liquid sample that I received at the Green Living Show. The label reads...

"Our All Natural vegetable based formula is made without dyes, perfumes, petroleum, formaldehyde preservatives, optical brighteners or enzymes, all of which we believe endanger us and our world,"

Impressive! In the ingredients list they not only give the ingredients, but they tell you where they come from. For example, the Fatty Polyglycoside used is derived from corn starch and palm kernel oil. When have you ever seen a label give that sort of info? This product claims to be hypoallergenic, unscented, safe for infants clothing, safe for high efficiency washers, phosphate, dye & perfume free, not tested on animals and septic and grey water safe. So here's my question. If this company can do all this, why can't all the others?

It's also made in Canada, which is a huge plus for me as a Canadian trying to support the local and national economy.

So how does it work? Fantastic. My clothes came out just as clean as with the Arm & Hammer and my old, non-environmentally friendly brand. The only noticeable difference was the lack of a scent. This stuff is truly unscented. Although I have grown accustomed to a lovely scent on my clothes I think I can live without it as long as they are clean and I'm not wondering about what chemicals went into the scent. And I should also mention that the consistency was a bit thinner than the average liquid laundry detergent. I'm not sure why that it, but since the stuff works I'm not going to question it.

This company also has some other great products that I look forward to trying. And their parent company Frank T. Ross & Sons also produce other non-toxic products.

The verdict? I will definitely purchase this brand the next time I need laundry detergent.

hey I used that laundry soap too when I got home - it's nice! Fortino's has it and I think they also have a lavender scent. That's the same brand of dish soap we use, and I know they have both scented and un.

Cool! I love lavender so I will definitely look for that. I've actually bought the dish soap but I'm still using up my old stuff so I haven't tried it yet. It's actually lavender and tea tree which is a beautiful combination. I'm planning to try more products from this company since they are so committed to producing non-toxic and environmentally friendly products and I like what I have tried so far.

Dear Vivian,

I stumbled onto your blog when I was looking for product reviews for environmentally friendly cleaning supplies (there are very few!). I also recently made the decision to start trying to replace my cleaning products with ones that are environmentally friendlier. It was good to read your positive experiences, as I have so far found less than stellar results with some of the products I have been trying (automatic dishwasher liquid and fabric softener). It is nice to to find reviews from a source that is close to where I am, so i can find the same products!

I look forward to reading about more products as you try them (if that's allright!), wishing you good luck on your search!

I'm just about out of my Method dish soap (french lavender) and have been debating about what to get next. I saw the Nature Clean stuff at my local market yesterday and added it to my list of possibles but unlike other brands I am looking at, I haven't seen any reviews. Could you tell me what you thought of the the dish soap? I am looking at the Mandarin/Grapefruit variety if that helps.

Other contenders:

-Method again

-Seventh Gen (by suggestion from many others)

-Ecover again

All have their plusses and minuses and I have experience with 2 of the 3. I could elaborate further on the pros and cons but that would take up a considerable amount of your real estate.

The Nature Clean appeals to me in a number of ways...

-the price is good

-the availability is good

-the scent is good

-the formula looks good

-bottle is good (shape and clear)

-Canadian is good!

So I welcome your thoughts and opinions, especially if you have used any of the brands I listed as contenders. Thanks!
